Medallion Top

I finished sewing down the raw edge applique pieces today. This is now ready to be basted to the backing and batting. I plan to machine quilt it on my domestic machine.

Done and Done

I mentioned before that I have finished the baby quilt using A Walk in the Woods charm squares and yardage. Here are the photos.
I really like the fabric I used for the binding. I was lucky to buy the last of this yardage from my LQS for this back.

That one will now be added to my list of finishes for 2013.

Next up is the Merry, Merry Snowmen quilt. I got the last of the buttons sewn on today. It is labeled and has a hanging sleeve. Done, done, done.  The quilting was done by Natalia Bonner at Piece N Quilt.

Sorry, but I don't know how to turn the photo of the label. So, another finish for 2013.

Whew! Moving on to another project. Thanks for stopping by.

This week's progress

It has been another good sewing week.

I got the Walk in the Woods baby quilt completely assembled. I changed my mind several times as I thought about the pattern I would use for this quilt. I had two sets of charm squares, so that was the basis of my pattern selection. I ultimately went for this one.
It has been personalized for the baby.
I used Melissa Corry's pattern from Moda Bake Shop found here. I have also finished quilting and binding it, but forgot to take another picture. This one is ready for the baby shower on August 16.

I also attached the outer border on the Medallion wallhanging and have arranged the cutouts. I have only pinned them on so I can look at it for a while to make sure I am happy with it before I actually iron and stitch these raw edged applique pieces on.

My Merry, Merry Snowmen quilt has come back from the longarmer. I am really happy with the results. I am in the midst of attaching the binding. Then I have many tiny buttons to sew on for eyes, etc. I will share a picture of the finished product.

I hope your sewing time has been as productive as mine has been.

Amish With a Twist II

I have assembled the Amish With a Twist II.
It has now joined the pile of completed tops waiting for quilting. I am trying to convince DH that I need a long arm machine to complete all of these tops. It has nothing to do with saving money, because that would be a lie. I just want to be able to complete the last step. It is an artistic desire, not an economic necessity. We'll see.

2013 Designer Mystery Blocks

I have completed the first two blocks of the 2013 Designer BOM.
You will notice that I fixed the misalignment of the two triangles at the bottom of block #1.
Also, I was thrilled with the way this detail on block #2 came out.
I would brag about my skills, but it was really just dumb luck. I didn't realize that the triangle needed to line up with the sides of the basket until I finished sewing it. Whatever made it come out right, I'll take it.

Short Sewing Day

I am cutting my sewing time short today. I am taking a turn making dinner. I don't do that very often anymore, so I need some time to get my act together.

I got the second pieced border sewn together and attached to the Medallion wallhanging.
I also got three more FW blocks done. I now have a total of 58. Happy, happy.

Farmer's Wife is Half Done!

I have continued to sew on the FW. I now have 55 blocks done. Yeah! I love to reach milestones.
I have also gotten the Medallion project's second border blocks pieced. I am going to look at it a bit more before I sew the blocks together in case I want to move any of them around. They will fit when they are sewn together. (But of course, you knew that.)
All in all, I have had a good day of sewing.

Thanks for stopping by.

First Pieced Border

I worked on the Medallion project again today. I completed the second pieced border and added two of the next solid border strips. I was done for the day, so here is the picture of what I accomplished.
A better person would have taken the time to add the last two border strips. Oh well. That's just the way I am. I know when I am done for the day.

Another Project begun

Yesterday I started another project. I watched this Medallion Along going on here and here while I was busy with other things. DH has asked me to make something to cover the fuse box cover in our basement. This is the perfect sized project for the job.
You will notice that my project is reversed from the one posted at Humble Quilts. Despite following the directions for fusing explicitly, my design is backwards. This always happens to me. I am not going to fuss about it. I am moving forward with this one. Today, I will start the second pieced border.

Can you spot the mistake?

This is one of the FW blocks I made yesterday.
I left the sewing room for a few hours to go to a meeting. When I returned I stared at the block and knew it didn't look right, but couldn't quite figure out what I had done wrong.

Do you see that is wrong with it? I didn't think to take the photo until I had started reverse sewing one of the seams, so I put a pin in it.

As it turns out, despite using a mini design board to take pieces to the sewing machine arranged correctly, I sewed the blue/white sawtooth with the blue corner square on the wrong side of the HST. I had to take off both of the blue/white sawtooth edges and reattach them correctly.

This is how the block should have been sewn the first time. Isn't it funny how you can look at an error and not see it, even when you know something is wrong? So it goes.

Weekend's Progress

I finished the Prairie Pines wallhanging. It has been bound and labeled. I put it in my bedroom and moved the Twelve Trees wallhanging to the family room.
I spent yesterday and today revisiting my Farmer's Wife blocks. It has been a while since I have worked on these. I got nine blocks done this weekend.
It really is fun working with such bright colors. Here are all 29 blocks that I have finished so far.
Block #30 is cut out and partially assembled, but not yet finished.

Domestic Machine Quilting

I have been working on the Pine Tree Wallhanging. I had great frustration quilting inside the trees. The top thread kept breaking. I tried changing everything I could think of: new needle, rethread machine (many times), lessen top tension. I finally finished that part. When I stippled around the trees with white thread (same brand, weight as the darker thread) I have very few breaks. That still doesn't make sense to me.

Here are my first feathers. I drew these on paper many times, but this is the first time I have actually quilted them.
Here is one of the corner triangles:
Here is the feathered border:
All in all, if I keep anyone from being closer than 5 feet of it, it looks OK. I'll be finishing up with the corner blocks today.

Rabbit, Rabbit!

It's the 1st day of another month. I am able to read my favorite blogs. Life is good.
