Patriotic Throw Pillows

These have been sitting around for a couple of years waiting to be quilted. I put them on the Lucey along with several other projects.

So much fun. Now I need to get one more pillow form so I can finish them up.

Making the Most of a Wide Backing

As I previously reported here, I took advantage of a wide backing to load as many projects as possible. I bought this yellow-ish backing specifically for my Canned Pears flimsy I made from the Fig Tree Quilts pattern.

This is what I managed to quilt on this backing fabric.

I quilted the Canned Pears quilt top (from Fig Tree Quilts), three extra blocks that I put together for a pillow sham to match the quilt, the Cut, Sew, Press, Repeat wall hanging, the Quick Curve Ruler table runner, and two flag scrap pillow tops. I didn't waste much fabric, that's for sure.

I am really a lazy person. I find loading the backing, batting and quilt top to be very labor intensive.

Another Finish for 2016

I completed another quilt. Canned Pears is completely done. Quilted, labeled and bound. This pattern is from Fig Tree Quilts. It is a bit smaller than I usually make. It would fit better on a twin size bed.

I free motion quilted feathers in the main part of the quilt.

I made three extra blocks as I made the quilt so I could play around with the placement of colors. I made those blocks into a pillow sham. I quilted the same size feathers on it as I did on the quilt top (below).

I made a narrow border of feathers, continuous curve in the checkerboard, and piano keys in the outer border. I filled every other piano key.

I am linking up with Podunk Pretties.

I'm a Winner!

See what I won from Karen Walker at Laugh Yourself into Stitches.

Wow. The Tulip Crush pillow pattern AND the cute as heck Tulip Crush Quilt pattern. I am thrilled. I see this in my near future.

Thanks so much to Karen for this great prize.

Starlight, Starbright BOM

Here are two latest blocks in the Starlight, Starbright BOM series.

The Ohio Star was a pleasant relief from paper pieced and template blocks. I revisited the block from the last installment, the all-time epic fail. I took it apart and resewed. The center star was much improved but those outer pieces are still terrible. I have given up on that one.

Quick Curve Ruler

I made this table runner with the free pattern that comes with the Quick Curve Ruler. I decided to go for a red, white, blue theme.
I want to make the Urban Nine Patch pattern from Sew Kind of Wonderful next. Stay tuned.

Starlight, Starbright

Rabbit, rabbit. It is the first day of another month. Did I say it first?

Another installment of Starlight, Starbright. Yikes. Another pattern with templates. I tried. I really tried.

Here is the pattern and my failed attempt.

Pitiful. Just pitiful. I was able to do the block below which looks infinitely more difficult. It only has one pucker.

Look at the ugliness on the back.

I was so totally frustrated that I gave up. The unfinished block is at the bottom of the project bin. Maybe I will be inspired to finish it another day. I found another 12" finished star block pattern to substitute. Voila! Great solution.

Except...I am making red stars with white backgrounds. Oy. On another day. When I am fresh. When I can think straight. I will remake this with the correct coloring. I am not going to feel guilty about switching out blocks that I do not have the skills or the interest to make. There. No more guilt. I will be like Scarlett O'Hara. Fiddle-dee-dee. Tomorrow is another day.
