Twirl

Another project I am working on is Twirl, a pattern from Joanna Figeroa. I always love her fabric designs and colors. So sweet.

Here is the layout beside my machine. I am using design boards ala Lori Holt. These are so helpful. I really need to make more.

For the stems, I used glue to turn and hold the seam allowances onto applique sheets that will disolve in water. That eliminates the need to remove freezer paper from the back. I stitched with monofilament from  Superior Threads. Used the method I learned from Beth Ferrier in her Craftsy class. Zigzag width of 1, stitch length of 2. It really went fast. I have all of the stems sewn.

Starlight, Starbright Month 3

I completed the third installment of the Starlight, Starbright BOM from Sentimental Stitches. This will be a beautiful Red and White Quilt. I was happy that there were no templates for this month.

This month, I received patterns for blocks #5 and #6.

Block #5  - 6" finished

Here is the tricky one. Block #6.

Block #6 - 12" finished
Unfortunately, this was pieced with Y seams for the corner squares and triangles. What a PITA! I have watched videos of how to do this many times. Not as easy as it looks. You will notice several of those intersections with dimples. That is after ripping out and resewing. Good enough. I think the phrase is, just quilt the hell out of it. In the overall look of a whole quilt, I think it will be OK.

Here is the collection of blocks so far.
See? It won't even be noticed when the whole thing is put together.

Crossroads Quilt Along

I am participating in Fat Quarter Shop's Crossroads Quilt Along. I bought the fabric kit of Strawberry Fields Revisited (Joanna Figueroa). I love this color palette. Here are the four house blocks.

So much cuteness. I can't pick a favorite. I just love this fabric. To read more about the Quilt Along and to download this pattern go here. The next pattern will be available on the 15th of March. Are you going to follow along with us? Raise money for a great cause and end up with a beautiful quilt. Win win.

Starlight, Starbright

I hate templates. I hope the Starlight, Starbright BOM from Sentimental Stitches won't have any more templates. I am a rotary cutter girl. Anyway, I made templates for Blocks 2 and 4 and paper pieced (EPP) them.
Block #2 finished 6"
Block #4 finished 6"

Here are the blocks so far.

I am looking forward to the next block. Don't we just love a good red and white quilt?

Amish with a Twist II Finish

Ta dah! The Amish with a Twist II is finished. This has been in the works for years. The flimsy was finished in July, 2013. It has aged perfectly.

As I was quilting this, I got mixed up as I was quilting so I decided that I had to repeat the error so it wouldn't look like a mistake. Before I was finished, I decided on a different design for that block.  When I turned the quilt to finish the borders, I went back and changed it to feathers. Always works.
Center design I didn't like

Feathered center
It is 105x105" finished. I used Glide thread and wool batting.

Glad to have the second finish of 2016 off the frame. By the way, Rabbit, rabbit. It's the first day of a month.
